Within these works I sought to convey the feelings and emotions related to the dish, arroz mexicano within my Mexican heritage. This dish is a comfort food as I have eaten Mexican rice since my infancy and it is a staple item for many meals. I sought a better understanding of the dish’s roots through the ingredients used and reflected on my own upbringing with the various noises and smells that would waft through the house from the kitchen. Within my video, I paid homage to my mother through the use of her voice as I prepared the dish myself and reflected on my past. For the design, i sought to use colors of the Mexican flag through the various shades of red, green, white and brown from the eagle imagery reflected on the country flag.
